Cubs (8 to 10 and a half years)
Cubs are young people aged 8 to 10½ years, meeting weekly in a group called a Cub Pack. Cubs build on their Beaver experience with bigger challenges, more ambitious adventures and growing responsibility.
What do Cubs get up to?
- 🥾 Hikes, camps and outdoor adventures
- 🍳 Cooking, first aid and practical life skills
- 🌍 Learning about global issues and the wider world
- 🏆 Earning challenge awards and activity badges
- 🤝 Community projects — food banks, tree planting and more
- 😄 Building lasting friendships and real confidence
Skills and character
Cubs learn by doing. Some skills are practical — cooking a meal or giving basic first aid. Others develop a passion or prepare them for adult life. But the most important are character skills: integrity, initiative, resilience and teamwork — the qualities that stay with young people for life.
Badges and Awards
From athletics and astronomy to photography and pioneering, there’s an activity badge to suit every Cub. They also work towards Challenge Awards covering adventure, world, skills and teamwork, with the Chief Scout’s Silver Award as the top honour in Cubs.
